Nebraska is a moving movie, Bruce Dern (78 years old) did not win the Oscar (Matthew McConaughey won it beating Leonardo DiCaprio who it was believed was to win it for once an all) but Bruce Dern could have done it perfectly as his portrayal in Nebraska of an alcoholic, old, loser man who  has  supposedly won a Million Dollar Prize is outstanding. In fact, Bruce Dern did win Cannes best actor prize. In order to get the prize or whatever it may be he starts a journey with relatives to Nebraska, throughout the trip he remembers his life and his family discover the reality behind this man as he comes back to his rural town. Nebraska is a great movie, the million dollar prize is only an excuse to the real history behind the main character. It is very interesting to see the rural surroundings of Nebraska because in rural areas everybody has a fame, a story from which is nearly impossible to escape

Bob Odenkirk actor

Movie director of Nebraska is Alexander Payne, the same filmmaker of Sideways, About Smichdt or The Descendants, he has a good taste when it comes to choose stories. With The Descendants he did win lots of recognition and the support of film goers, with Sideways he conquered critical acclaim but I consider Nebraska to be superior than the two aforementioned. Alexander Payne is from Nebraska by the way. Nebraska is a rural state that only has 2 million inhabitants.

Amongst secondary actors also shines wife of protagonist, Actress June Squibb (85 years old) not Bob Odenkirk so much, famous lawyer from Breaking Bad, while in the television series he realizes a great performance in Nebraska it is as if you were seeing the lawyer all over again but the problem here is his role is dissimilar to Breaking Bad. However, Bob Odenkirk talks as if he had Walter White in front of Him. Bob Odenkirk appears in Television Series Fargo and gives the same impression at least he is to star a television series based on his character from Breaking Bad, he will no have to change his way of acting. Nebraska did receive 6 Oscar Nominations, although none of them was garnered as Nebraska is a humble movie it does not have nothing to envy to 2013 winners (12 years of slavery, Gravity, Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas Buyers Club, The Great Gatsby or American Hustle). What is more, I strongly believe Bruce Dern rendered the best performance of 2013. Do share, rate or comment.

Gone Girl.

When one reads David Fincher´s filmography one is dazzled as it is possessed of a wide compilation of diverse tales (Zodiac, The Game) solvent movies (The Social Network, The Curious case of Benjamin Button) unforgettable stories (Se7en, Fight Club). Similarly, he has touched the world of musical videoclips (David Fincher did win 2 Grammys Awards working alongside The Rolling Stones, Madonna or Michael Jackson). What is more, he also has worked in television, (House of Cards for instance) and he is to make a new version of British television series Utopia. Remake that was also attempted once when Fincher made The Girl with the Dragon tatoo. Gone Girl is like David Fincher´s filmography, it is a wonderful experience.

Gone Girl is based upon a successful novel and the script is written by its author, writer Gilliam Flynn. Apparently, we have here a couple with no problems attached, Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. They are pretty, enviably until one day its luck changed and they decided thereby to come back to the natal state of Ben Affleck, Missouri because they have economical problems, its until then perfect marriage is shaken for some reasons, time, economical issues, professional careers and above all the mysterious disappearance of the girl, English actress Rosamund Pike, who is not so well known as Ben Affleck in Hollywood but after having seen her here I understand why she may have been signed as her performance is superb. An ordinary actress will not be able to do such a formidable role. Similarly, Flynn´s scrip is brilliant and the direction is classy. Gone girl deserves awards. Without going any further, writing, David Fincher (Hollywood owes him big) actress Rosamund Pike or music (Trent Reznor as always helping Fincher) should be given nominations.

As secondary actors we have two famous faces in United States, Neil Patrick Harris, comic and a celebrity chosen to present the Academy Awards´ big night on this edition and star of How I met your mother and Emily Ratajkowski, model who became famous appearing on one of the most polemic but popular videoclips of last years, Blurred Lines by Robert Thicked that can be watched now, Emily Ratajkowski is now an actress as Gone Girl proves.

It is interesting to remember that historical scene where Al Pacino sings Attica Attica Attica whilst people cheer him  that has been imitated so many times on movies and television throughout times. This scene is from Sidney Lumet´s movie Dog Day Afternoon. At that time there was a mutiny inside Attica prison in the State of New York thereby  that singing was somewhat like a protest song against authorities. The two poor souls of the movie Dog Day Afternoon became heroes for people and celebrities thanks to Television. This movie is based on a true story that took place an ordinary hot day on Brooklyn, New York City, the performance of Al Pacino is superb. It was supposed that nothing was going to happen that day, the robbery was going to last some minutes....

Al Pacino and John Cazale were close friends and they decide to make an unpretentious movie but the result was great nevertheless. John Cazale is one of the most incredible cases inside Cinema History, he died at 42 years old, he is the only ever actor whose movies he was within were all nominated to the major category of best movie picture at Academy Awards. Because of his performance on Dog Day Afternoon John Cazale was nominated to Golden Globes, there is even a documentary about him because his curriculum is incredible, he made the two first parts of The Godfather, The Conversation, The Deer Hunter and Dog Day Afternoon for instance. Is there somebody who has made such great movies acting as a secondary actor?

Dog day afternoon is a strange movie, the best of all is that it is real, was directed by the wonderful filmmaker Sidney Lumet and Al Pacino´s performance is a riveting and outstanding one. Dog Day Afternoon starts great, very fast, it is breathtaking. However, as long as it gets it turns out to be a little bit slow although is mandatory to see the ending. Dog day afternoon was nominated to 6 Academy Awards winning best Screenplay gong.

If one is tired of seeing the same repetitive movies that are made these days The Dreamers can be a good bet.The Dreamers is based upon a novel of Gilbert Adair, the Holy Innocents. 

An American journalist (Michael Pitt) is living in Paris for a while, at the same time historical disturbances of 1968 are taking place. He  met then two enigmatic siblings (Eva Green and Louis Garrel) who invited him to have dinner one night and subsequently to stay in their house, in central Paris. A special relationship between the three of them starts as a result, they will talk and discuss over politics, movies, history...

Metallica had always wanted to start a project within the world of cinema, yet in the 90s they let it down because of at that time too complicated technology as well as their lack of experience. After publishing a documentary that could be deemed as Metallica´s  presentation Some Kind of Monster, they give us a distinct project called Through the never. Inspiration came i from best seller The Alchemist. The plot of the movie may be secondary albeit can be interesting to remember it, a dude called trip (Dane DeHaan) who works for Metallica  has to deliver a parcel to a truck driver, what seemed an ordinary job turns out to be a kind of nightmare and the boy  is involved in an amazing journey as he will fight for survival with monsters, zombies... everything overlaid with the music of Metallica that involves Through the Never movie from beginning to end.

Rinko Kikuchi is a prominent Japanese actress that has become a global movie star due to her acting skills, elegance, intelligence, style and beauty. Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu surprised everybody with his fabulous movie "Amores Perros" that let him to reach Hollywood, subsequently, he made 21 Grams that was another powerful story with important acting heavyweights such as Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro or Naomi Watts.

His 3rd film was the one that gave him worldwide recognition, Babel, it is a tale of different stories taking place in Asia, America or Africa. Regardless of the success, Babel was not as good as his first project Amores Perros (that I strongly recommend anyone who loves movies as it can be deemed as one of the best movies of the last 20 years) except for the performance of a Japanese actress named Rinko Kikuchi. Rinko Kikuchi was nominated for many important awards, it was really the big thing to watch on Babel. Rinko Kikuchi  was nominated for best supporting actress on the big night of Hollywood for instance (Jennifer Hudson won the Oscar that year) she was the best nonetheless according to the Critics Association of Chicago and Austin (Texas). Babel won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe and received a lot of important nominations,  but  is Rinko Kikuchi who really should be praised for.

Babel henceforth, Rinko Kikuchi has not been shining so strong until the last couple of years that Rinko Kikuchi has been starring some interesting movies such as Norwegian Wood. As a matter of fact, she is back in the business with the movie Pacific Rim and 47 Ronin alongside Keanu Reeves. Still, Rinko Kikuchi appears on the movie "Kumiko, the treasure hunter" and she will be in another  Isabel Coixet´s project called "Nadie quiere la noche". In my opinion, the best actress of television series Gossip Girl is Leighton Meester. her character is a perfectionist posh girl, competitive, harsh, cold hearted as hell whose name is Blair Waldorf and it is a great character. She is an actress with a huge talent, in fact, despite the success of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester is the best of the television series and has appeared on movies like Montecarlo with Selena Gomez o Country Strong with Gwyneth Paltrow. Furthermore, she has appeared with a great result in other television series as House, Entourage, Shark, Law and order...

Another great actress is Taylor Momsen, her character is a poor soul, widely laughed at on school because of her naivety and humble backgrounds, yet in real life she is a tough girl (or this is what we suppose) she designed clothes with Madonna and has a rock band called The Pretty Reckless, she dropped out of school very soon because she considered it was not longer interesting for her as she was going to triumph without formation. Likewise, she was on the verge of being on the show Hannah Montana but she lost against Miley Cyrus something that I have found peculiar seeing how at that time they were going to be nice, good girls and now they are pop idols who create plenty of controversy.Taylor Momsen is  now focused on her rock band whose image is provocative and her acting career is a little forgotten, the song Make me wanna die is a good chance to discover The Pretty Reckless

It is fully surprising Taylor Momsen´s  image in real life as while on the television series  acts as a humble sweet little girl, a gal whose dream is to labour within the fashion industry but as she is not from Manhattan but from Brooklyn she cannot compete against the money and ego other girls possess, in real life though seems she is not afraid of anything. Indeed, it has been said Taylor Momsen had several problems with Gossip Girl fellow cast members because of her strong character.Talking of her family on Gossip Girl, her brother (Penn Badgley actor who appeared on the movie Margin Call and was also dating Blake Lively) with whom particularly I cannot stand (the character I mean) wants to become a writer and be a household name in New York City. Still, I even stand less her father, a somewhat Peter Pan who does not want to grow up and keeps following a musical career when it is long past. This family is the worst element of Gossip Girl albeit what I dislike is the family no her character so much as Taylor Momsen acts great. We should clarify that Taylor Momsen abandoned the television series in the Fourth Season because she wanted touring with her band The Pretty Reckless and even to those problems she created while shooting Gossip Girl.
