Since they are famous stars who shine in Hollywood and elsewhere we can deem them as superficial or out of our league. However, Johnny Depp proved the contrary (or at least his character Jack Sparrow). While shooting the end of the fourth part of the flick Pirates of the Caribbean sea in London his main protagonist received an incredible letter. There was a little girl who plead him for help as she was really worried because she and her fellow pirates were losing a battle against the teachers who make them study very hard. So bad was the situation  that the only person able to help them successfully was Jack Sparrow, owing to this fact she wrote a desperately letter.

Any famous person would throw the letter away. Nonetheless, Johnny Depp phoned Meridian Primary School announcing Jack Sparrow and some friends of him were on his way to the school in order to help the little girl and the mutiny. Ten minutes later, Johnny Depp dressed as JackSparrow with the letter on his hand and some pirate friends arrived at Meridian Primary School in London and call on the girl (whose name is Beatrice Delap) so that be able to win the battle and fulfil the mutiny. Christian Bale´s diet and The Machinist

Differing from the masterpiece of Martin Scorsese Raging Bull where Robert De Niro (one of the idols of Christian Bale) gained and lost a lot of weight to perform the role and the legendary story of boxer Jack Lamotta or other stories based upon true stories (Matthew MacConaughey not long ago) I truly believe Christian Bale did not really need to loose so much weight to shoot The Machinist.

The diet of Christian Bale consisted of apples, coffee and canned tuna, he only ate that as a diet for months losing therefore 28 kg somewhere in the region of 63 pounds,  just the same amount of weight  Robert De Niro gained to star Raging Bull but he obtained an Oscar

Christian Bale renders a perfect performance on The Machinist, however, so weak is the final part of the The Machinist that you have the same impression you may possess when you watch perfume commercials at Christmas, you believe you must buy the perfume but once you have them in your home you realise everything was a superficial figment of your imagination thus you did not need them by no means.

Christian Bale must love movies to make this kind of performance on The Machinist and adopt such a severe diet, the role of a crazy factory worker, a sick, zany and strange man that has problems to get asleep and looses so much weight that becomes a bony body walking to the extreme of looking like a sick dead person hence the movie The Machinist is not entirely recommendable with some many cases of people with eating disorder and anorexia these days.

Regarding The Machinist and the experience, Christian Bale said he became obsessed with the idea of feel invincible, to look like a person who have not slept for a year, however, the director of The Machinist Brad Anderson said Christian Bale was not obliged to loose so much weight, it was more of an idea of Christian Bale but the director was not able to stop Christian Bale from losing so much nevertheless. Christian Bale said he felt so severe and calm having so little weight that he wanted to loose more and more, it was somehow a evil game for Christian Bale.

It does bother me that The Machinist is far more famous because of the controversy of the weight and diet of Christian Bale than for any other aspect of it. The movie The Machinist seems to pay homage to the films of Alfred Hitchcock and even another legendary Robert De Niro´s performance and movie Taxi Driver. Even though it starts in an interesting way it soon becomes and ugly disappointing experience.

The character of Christian Bale on The Machinist falls badly in a psychological game, he works in a factory has a lot of dreams and its intention is to deceive you. Nonetheless, all the tricks were a failure,  The Machinist did not make any success at the box office being snubbed by all Cinema Awards. It is much more famous because of Christian Bale´s performance rather than its quality or the plot, consequently, it does not worth it to put yourself on risk to act like a crazy guy on The Machinist that gives us a Christian Bale extremely thin on the verge of being seriously sick as a matter of fact. It is interesting to have such a dangerous diet to make a movie like The Machinist that was a utterly failure?

Cameron Diaz, The Counselor

When I just first saw the trailer of The Counselor I deemed it as an important movie picture. Indeed, which project can say it has Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Penélope Cruz, Brad Pitt within its cast being written by the author of No Country for old men and The Road, Cormac McCarthy,  being directed as well by Ridley Scott?

Still, as secondary actors,  also appears Bruno Ganz that left us speechless when he appeared on German movie Der Untergang (Downfall) acting as a declining Adolf Hitler, the brilliant Rosie Pérez who was the main star of Alex de la Iglesia movie Perdita Durango also with Javier Bardem therein and the superb Natalie Dormer who renders a perfect interpretation in Game of Thrones as the new wife of sadistic king Joffrey.

Everything was promising and even though a story about drugs it is not the most original matter on the world it always involve solid stories of struggle and power. However, when I read the  reviews I did not remember a movie with so much negative unity between them, Time Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Rolling Stone.. all of them panned it. I consequence,  I went to see The Counselor a little bit frightened but the result is not so bad and it turned out a positive experience.

What is more, the performance of Cameron Diaz is so fabulous that she deserves recognition. She has never had good luck with the movie roles she has been into and thanks to this particular one she has reached her highest peak. Couple world of Javier Bardem and Cameron Diaz is of an easy life, plenty of luxury, wealth, power, ostentation. Couple Michael Fassbender and Penélope Cruz are much more humble and modest.

There are some hot scenes with Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz that have been widely talking of but they are not so special as a matter of fact. Likewise, Michael Fassbender is no so perfect here, neither Penelope Cruz. Brad Pitt is Ok. What makes the movie dazzle is the two performances of Cameron Diaz and Javier Bardem.

                      

 The Counselor

The Counselor is a dense movie that does not move fast and it is as if it were made of Eight or Nine conversations, independent each between them, show something philosophical, to instruct you, not all of them achieve its purpose, besides, the directing and the screenplay go different ways in the sense that are not very good connected. It promises far much more that finally gives but has positive aspects and has an interesting ending

 Even though the language of the screenplay is dissimilar to of an screenplay the movie in the end is not so horrible, in my opinion The Counselor is well presented and made, it is true that given they have such important actors they should have formed a big great one but The Counselor it is not a failed movie nor so negative. Perhaps some people are to dislike it because it is even too intellectual and slow, but from there to say it is horrible there is a world along. In short,  The Counselor has numerous positive aspects amongst them

Daniel Day-Lewis won an Oscar and starred Lincoln thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio.

Daniel Day-Lewis won his third Oscar because of Leonardo Dicaprio´s advice, an incredible actor who unfortunately is having bad luck with Academy Awards was responsible nonetheless of one of the finest performances of recent times. Daniel Day-Lewis was not going to star Lincoln, he was not thrilled to do it and the role was written originally for Ralph Fiennes who worked alongside Steven Spielberg in the famous flick Schindler´s list.

However, time passed by and Spielberg delayed his project. When the new century came Ralph Fiennes felt too old to such a role and Spielberg  thought of Daniel Day-Lewis instead as the perfect candidate but the English-Irish actor was not convinced and he did not want to make that movie. One night thereafter,  Leonardo DiCaprio was having dinner with Steven Spielberg and the wife of the last one where Spielberg confessed DiCaprio his frustration over Lincoln. Indeed,  Steven Spielberg thought he was going to die without attempting one of his most coveted projects, the biopic of one of the most conciliatory presidents of the history of the United States of America: Abraham Lincoln. According to him, the only possible actor to do it was Daniel Day -Lewis. Spielberg was going to abandon the idea.

The following day, Leonardo DiCaprio phoned Steven Spielberg giving him Daniel Day Lewi´s personal phone number as he had convinced the renowned actor into making the main role of his latest project: Lincoln. The result is far to well known and now Daniel Day-Lewis is the only actor ever who has won three Academy Awards in the major category of best actor.
